OH-Bama!

As I watched the new numbers come up last night after each state's polls closed, I tried to explain to Micah why I was so transfixed by the television. I told him that this man, whom Micah cared nothing about, would inevitably have a fantastic and far-reaching effect on his little life. Micah and the rest of us will greatly be affected by the decisions and values of President Elect Barack Obama.

I think it's a moment to be remembered and even celebrated. The presidency is no longer white man's territory. We've opened a new door and Micah's classmates will truly all believe they can be president someday, regardless of color.

I think it is one great leap for man-kind. And a one large step to the far left for Americans. I do hope Obama succeeds. As an American, I can hope for no less. But I also hope and pray that conservatives realize that we need to re-visit our own values and we need to believe in our nominees with swelling hearts. Even in my case, my vote was not for McCain, it was against Obama. I will look forward to seeing my guy, Mike Hucakabee, mount a more successful campaign in four years. He's already gaining popularity and I'll be watching him closely.

Meanwhile I pray that Obama is brought to his knees in prayer by the insane challenge of his job. I pray God will be in the White House and lead us into better times. I really hope Obama can be the change we need. Micah needs a better world.

What's so cool about our country is that we may not vote for a guy, but once he's in office, we support and respect him. Well...it seems Republicans tend to do that, anyway. ;) James and I didn't vote for him, but we too think it's really cool that the color barrier was broken AND you no longer have to have a fancy English name to be Pres. :)

You're right - now, no matter who is in office, we can pray that those elected leaders choose to follow God daily, and lead our country that way. I have hope for the next four years!
