16 weeks

Well, I'm more than four months along now. Last time I was pregnant I kept up with What to Expect When You're Expecting as I progressed. This time I grab the book every few weeks or so just to see what's coming up. Here's what I read today:

My uterus is currently the size of a melon. According to my deflated self esteem, I'm going with watermelon. The baby is about 7 inches long and 7-10 ounces. (S)He will double in size in just a matter of days now.

The baby has fingerprints and even toe prints! He can suck his thumb, swallow amniotic fluid and pass it as urine, and make practice breathing movements! And she's only 7 inches long! Such a miracle!

If we're having a girl this time (we'll know in 12 days!) then her eggs and uterus are already formed.

According to my book I should be able to feel little squirmy arms and legs any day now! I *think* I've felt some very slight movements two or three times and I can't believe I'm actually waiting for the days when I've got elbows and knees shoving into my guts!

In my opinion, the second trimester is when pregnancy brain really kicks in. I've been forgetful and flighty lately (Yes- even more than normal). It's a miracle in itself that pregnant women are able to keep their jobs!

Micah now understands that there is a baby in my tummy. I think that's mostly due to Aunt Jill's big tummy. I'm looking for a good book on being a big brother and what to do with a baby for Micah. Let me know if you've seen a good one. I think I'm going to get him a doll (do they still make My Buddy?) and begin teaching him about what kinds of things babies need. I fully expect my little, rowdy toddler to be able to bring me a diaper, wipes, burp cloth, or rub the baby's tummy and pop in a paci if (s)he's crying. Yup- I'm training me up a little mommy's helper! (Big ambitions over here at the Domino's!)
