Kaboom!

Micah had his first kaboom this week. I say kaboom
because he has little booms all the time. He gets
overly excited playing peek-a-boo behind the curtains
and falls right into the wall, he rams into you with
his head because he can't be bothered to slow down, he
tries to reach the wrapped presents on the table and
falls. But, this was different.

Lindsey was over and we were in the kitchen. Micah was
under our feet, using the barstool as a walker like he
does on a daily basis. Lindsey had just told me she'd
gotten a promotion and I'm not sure if our excitement
distracted him or what, but he lost his balance. And
instead of letting go of the stool and falling on his
bum, he kept a death grip on it and pulled it down on
top of him. The round, wooden seat cracked right on
his little forehead.

It freaked me out and I think I nearly pummeled
Lindsey in an effort to get to him. He didn't cry any
longer than he does for the small bumps he gets, so I
was just about to shrug it off, when Lindsey says,
"What's on his head?" An ugly, mountain-sized bump had
shown up in just the short 30 seconds since the fall.
It was all black and bruised and it looked pathetic.
Thankfully Lindsey was there to remind me that ice
would be helpful. I tried to hold him down long enough
to hold a bag of frozen peas to his head, but he just
wanted to be let down to play. It only took a few
minutes for the bump to go down a bit. But, today, 3
days after the fact, he still has a dusty bruise and a
good size bump on his head.

Terry came home from work and gave Micah a once over
to make sure he was really okay, then he was able to
express his pride at his son's first brush with
danger. He even photographed the bump (which doesn't
really show up on film).

Guessing from Micah's exuberant little personality,
this will be only the first of accidents like this.
He's morphed from the baby that we always talked about
being so good into such a little dare-devil. I'm
really exhausted these days because chasing him around
the house all day is tiring! He's getting so
accustomed to his regular surroundings that he's
trying to see them from a new perspective. Meaning,
he's climbing! He'll use anything as a step stool to
get up where he can see new things from new angles.

Today is my day to work out of the home, and Terry is
watching Micah while he works at home online. I was
heading toward the door to leave this morning, and
heard Terry shout, "Oh, Micah! What is that? What are
you doing?!" And I just smiled and closed the door
behind me, happy that it was Daddy's turn to play defense!

How scary!! If I heard something crack on Hazel's forehead, I don't think even calm Aunt Lindsey could have reasoned with me. :)
