He Stands!

That's right, Micah is officially standing on his own! And when I say "on his own" I really mean it because if anyone tries to lift him to his feet and get him to stand on their timing, he won't have it. Instead he'll collapse to the floor and wiggle away. But when he decides to stand, it's a very cool thing to see! Here's how it happened the first time...

Micah only gets his pacifier at bed time. And that's when we get to play one of my favorite (and his, I think) games. Thursday night he had his pacifier and was cruising around holding onto the couch. I came up beside him, grabbed the pacifier out of his mouth and plopped it into mine. (I didn't say it was a sanitary game!) This cracks him up and he knows his job is to retrieve the paci. So, he reaches out to get it with one hand while keeping the other firmly on the couch. But, I held firm. I wasn't giving up my paci without a fight. In an effort to get the paci back into his mouth where it belongs, he let go of the couch with his second hand and tried with all 10 little pudgy fingers to pry the pacifier away. I was so shocked that he was standing, that I gave in easily. He was thrilled that he got his pacifier back and he even did a few bounces while standing before he plopped onto his bottom and crawled off.

It was like he'd been standing for weeks. The first thing I thought was, "I can't believe Terry is taking out the trash and missed it!" When he came back in is when we learned that Micah is finicky and won't stand on anybody else's timetable. But, yesterday when Terry kept him at home, Micah stood a lot for him. And last night we got a very long 10 second stand complete with bouncing and dancing!!

Ok, you know it's cool! Admit it! I'm dying for him to walk now, but until he lets us help him stand, I don't think we'll make any progress with that.
