Maybe the Most Important

This could very well be the most important presidential election of our lifetime. We're involved in one war and are likely soon to add Afghanistan into the mix, we're still confronted with the threat of terrorism on our own doorsteps, and we're seeing the biggest economic turmoil since the depression. Times are tough and honestly, in my opinion, both candidates leave a little something to be desired.

Our current opressive government could very much be due to America and Americans cutting God out of our lives and out of our government. There are some fundamental truths of the Bible that we've chosen as a country to ignore and we're seeing the result of that. We can't cut God out of the law, out of our social lives, out of our workplaces and schools and expect him to continue to look past this discrepancy again and again and bless us and protect us.

Oliver Wendell Holmes said, "The right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins." Sounds smart enough. It's definitely where we're headed these days: "I'm not bothering you, so allow me my space." But in the end, shouldn't we be concerned about the morality and safety of our citizens even when their actions don't affect others? Shouldn't we care about the person bringing harm to themselves regardless of who else it is affecting? Sin and immorality are like viruses. They spread, they grow. When America loses sight of some very important Biblical truths and allows them to be corrupted, all we do is set oursleves up for a downfall of society.

Abortion isn't much of a hot topic this election; there are more pressing issues, I suppose. However, it will always be at the top of my agenda. The Bible is very clear that God knows us from the time we're in the womb. The abortion argument is semantics, as far as I'm concerned. At what point an embryo becomes a fetus, and then becomes a baby is irrelevant. The Bible demonstrates that we are beings, valuable and loved and worthy of life, while still in utero.

America stood up against the recent bailout bill, shaken by the thought of our money being taken to bail out the irresponsible in a process that would be monitored by the corrupt. And surprisingly enough, the second version of the bill has been brought back asking for even more money and ear-marked with dozens of other issues that shouldn't be anywhere on this bill. Giving money to movie producers does not rank high on my priority list--let's keep it separate until we get ourselves out of this current mess we're in.

And that brings me to my second point. The Bible is also clear on another point that we as a country (myself included) have ignored. The issue of debt. The borrower is slave to the lender which means pretty bad things for our country who is billions upon billions of dollars in debt and mere hours away from adding another $850 million to that number.

These are just two political issues that the Bible addresses, of course. I'd love to hear your thoughts on others. And if anyone is on the fence in this upcoming election, I urge you to look to the Bible, our rulebook, to see which candidate best fits the bill. Let's pray about the decision; that we hear from God regarding who will make the best President and that we can begin the difficult process of undoing some of the wrongs that have been made and bringing morality back to America. It's important and I'll fight for what I believe so that Micah and his brother or sister don't inherit a world where citizens are morally and ethically care-free.

There is so much freedom in the Bible's laws. God carefully laid out for us how to act in every situation. Let's hope that one of these candidates spends time in the word and understand what a privilege it is even to be considered to run our still-wonderful country. Let's hope God's working in their hearts now to be a solid Christian leader like our forefather's intended.

I love how you put this. It's not an issue of trying to take away people's rights, but instead you care about obeying God, and hoping your children live in a country that obeys God. Nothing bad could come from that!!

So part of this $850billion is going to movie producers??

I don't care which party leads us; whether the person is experienced, charismatic, a world leader, etc. All I care is that the President wakes up in the morning and says, "God, I can't do this without you. Please lead me today to make decisions that please you." If (s)he were to do that, all the experience, charisma, and leadership would fall into place.
