Micah, the Book

We knew Micah was a prophet in the Bible who is attributed with writing the book of the same name, but we really didn't intend to name our Micah after him. We just liked the name.
But people who meet Micah often say something like, "Oh, like in the Bible."
So, I felt I should know more about the book. I've read it before, but that was without my trusty commentary. And I've come to the conclusion that me reading the Bible without my commentary is something like reading 12th century poetry in a hurry. It's not too easy to comprehend.

My first discovery about Micah (the prophet, not the peanut) this morning was distrubing. Without knowing it, I did something that is a huge pet peeve of mine. I hate when people have nicknames as full names. Like being named Ben instead of Benjamin. Or Jenny instead of Jennifer. Even Bill instead of William. I'm fine with calling a person by a nickname, just get it right on the birth certificate! I don't know why it bothers me so much, I guess it seems like you're trying to cut corners.

I knew that "Micah" meant "Who is a God like you?" But, Micah is really short for Micaiah which means, "Who is like the Lord?" I know what you're thinking- HUGE difference, right? :)

Well, the meaning is the same, but nonetheless I've fallen victim to my own pet peeve. I'm a peeve victim.

Other things to know about Micah (the prophet, not the peanut):
He was born about 25 miles southwest of Jerusalem.
He was chosen by God to deliver a message of judgement to the princes and people of Jerusalem.
He was smart and an eloquent writer.
When Jeremiah later quotes scriptures from Micah, his life is spared.
Jesus himself refers to Micah 7:6 in Matthew 10:35, 36.

WHAT??? My blogs are getting more boring????
Ok, here you go...

Oh my gosh---so cute! Like father like son. Ha ha! And Micah's face looks SO intent on playing.

So I must say, I really like the name Micahiah (sp?). I think it's pretty. Maybe Grant is actually short for...Granticus?

Or possibly Grantizite?

There was a verse or something that I read in Micah one day that I was super excited about that I wanted to share with you, and then I totally forgot. And now I can't remember. Ah well.

That's weird about the nickname thing. But of course I have weird naming rules too that I won't go into because they're just odd.
