Five Things

Micah's first cousin is on the way! No, Jill, Laura, or Kelly are not pregnant. "Aunt" Emily is in labor right now and that means Hazel Elizabeth Roberts, aka Micah's future wife, will be here soon!

Sitting here thinking of what she's going to be like has got me thinking. I remember when we tried to guess what Micah's personality was going to be. I think our guesses were pretty on target. He's just as squirmy now as he was during my pregnancy!

I wish that we could be like the fairies in Sleeping Beauty and bestow attributes onto our children. If you could pick five things for your child or yourself, what would they be? I think my parents must have chosen honesty for me because I have to get things off my chest or I feel unsettled. I like that I'm like that, though.

If I could pick 5 things for Micah, they would be...

1. Obviously, a love for the Lord. Afterall, obedience to God's word is really the only way we're happy, so that's a biggie.

2. Niceness. I know that's not a word, but I'm making it one. I don't mean kind-heartedness or politeness, but NICENESS. Terry has this quality. Terry is just a nice guy. Everyone likes him. I bet he's never made an enemy because he's just so nice.

3. Definitely a forgiving spirit. I can hold a grudge tighter than your grandma's support hose, and that's not a good thing.

4. I hope he's an adventurous person, excited by new prospects and not dettered by failure.

5. This one's a little shallow, but I hope he's athletic. I think it must be hard to be a boy in today's world and not be athletic and I'd hate for him to have to endure the stereotypes or ridicule. It doesn't specifically have to be athleticism, but a genuine passion for anything that allows him to be part of a group and gainconfidence through competition or team work. The statistics on these kinds of things leading to happier, more productive men are mind-blowing!

So, if I were a cute little fairy in a blue dress (the blue one on Sleeping Beauty is my favorite) and pointy blue hat, I'd definitely give those qualities to Micah. Lucky for me, I might just have enough influence on him to allow him a headstart in these areas!

And if I were Hazel's fairy, I'd give her...

A spirit of servitude like her Mamma.
A great voice (unlike her Mamma :), because, girls who sing pretty are just cool!
A modest and conservative nature (very important for girls these days),
A friendly spirit,
and of course that love for God thing again!

Hmmm...I'll think on this and get back to you. It's actually a really great idea for my own blog. I may steal it. :)
