Terry is beginning a new position at work soon. So his current boss told him he'd be wise to take a few days of vacation before things got crazy for him. He's never been one to pass up on some lazy days, so even though we didn't have time to actually plan a get-away, we happily scheduled some time off.
Aside from Micah getting sick and one unfortunate shopping experience for Terry and I (we intended on getting some fun stuff for ourselves and left with over $100 in stuff for...you guessed it, Micah!) we had a pretty decent time.
Micah had his first trip to the zoo. And probably his last for a while. We thought we'd waited an appropriate amount of time to take him. After all, he can make several animal sounds and can point out monkeys, lions, bears, cats, dogs, giraffes, and elephants in books. But the animals are so far away that Micah just kind of looked at us stupefied when we pointed to them. He did enjoy when a monkey swung to a branch right in front of him. And he liked playing with the ropes used to block off the exhibits. Other than that, it was kind of a bust. Oh, and he got pooped on by a bird. Yep. Poop.
On a separate day we took him to Katy Mills Mall. It's Micah's absolute favorite place to go. It's pretty big and really brightly colored. We take trips during the week when it's not crowded and I let him lead the way, which he loves! Terry took him to the play area and let him chase the big kids while I popped into Starbucks. Then we took him to the toy store and let him wander. Surprisingly, we managed to leave empty-handed. Then we went to the book store and took him to the kids section. He wandered for a long time and we left with two books: There's a Wocket in My Pocket and The Monster at the End of This Book.
Then he and Terry rode the carousel and I stood to the side waving like an idiot every time their horse came around. And finally, we ended the day by taking Micah to his very first movie, Horton Hears a Who. We timed it just perfectly and he was sleepy enough to sit calmly and watch it, but not so sleepy that he was squirmy. He leaned back in his chair and watched Horton the entire time!
We spent much longer at the mall than the zoo, and to me, it was a pretty perfect day even if it does make for a pretty dull blog!

That sounds really fun! I bet you loved that alone time at Starbucks. And that's pretty impressive that he sat still for an entire movie. I bet a lot of kids, especially boys, don't do that! Glad you got to get out some together. Sometimes a vacation in your home city is the only way to go!
Awwww! So cute! I don't think this stuff is boring cause it's all big stuff for Micah-like his first movie. You guys still get to enjoy all those firsts and I bet it's more fun now that he is active and starting to understand more. Minus the zoo of course. Ha ha!
