Mr. Personality

Micah is quite the mover-and-shaker these days. He's army crawling his way all over the living room now. It happened so fast, and I'm sure he'll take off with just as much enthusiasm when he finally figures out how to perch up on his knees. This means we can't leave him even for a second anymore, which is fine. But, it also means his spit-up is mobile, now, too. Which isn't fine. Before we could contain it on a blanket, now I feel like I'm always cleaning up little puddles on the carpet. It also means that I'm a bit fanatical about keeping the carpet clean, which is easier said than done with our $45 vaccum from Target. Especially since that thick head of hair I got while pregnant is now shedding like a poodle in the summer.

He's still teething (when oh when will that tooth come??) And so he's chewing on everything, including my toe which he discovered earlier this week while scooting around by the bottom of our couch. I said, "Eeew! Micah, no! DIRTY!" And he just laughed!

Pretty soon he'll come to understand what no means. It didn't take too many days of him crawling around before we used that word. It also hasn't taken him long to hurt himself. He's fallen against something hard or banged his head several times now. Most of the time we hold our breath and brace for a scream, but he just ignores it and goes about his business. He's a tough little guy! There have been 3 times when he's needed a good hug, but even that doesn't last long. Once you give him a little squeeze, he's anxious to get down again and play!

Micah is (horror of all horrors) a morning person! He's been systematically crashing at 8:15 every night, and that means by 5 a.m. he's ready to party! A little patting and the vibration in his bed will usually buy us a bit more time. What's funny is that he is his most talkative as soon as he opens his eyes in the morning. We'll wake up with the sun (or even before) hearing Micah shuffle around in the bed, but we can usually sleep through that. But when he starts cooing at the fan and blabbering like an old lady to no one in particular, Terry and I look at each other and just roll our eyes. Once Micah's awake, there's no sleeping for anyone else in the house! Terry was at his desk by 7:30 this morning, when he used to roll in regularly at 9!

The good news about him waking earlier is that he's napping better and longer. Which I used to beg for! But now I'm too exhausted to do much and I've been spending chore-time sitting on my booty rather than taking advantage of the extra time to get things done. In fact, Terry brought fast food home for dinner last night and I'm thinking of asking him to do the same tonight so I can avoid making dinner! Yikes 2x in a row! But, that's not as bad as me crawling into bed yesterday around 2 and taking a nap while Micah slept! I haven't done that since he was a newborn!

I suppose I'll get out of the slump soon enough. And even if I don't, Micah is so close to sleeping through the night, and when he finally masters that we'll all be a happier household. Although, I'm not sure we could be much happier! Micah is so much fun, and it's nice to have an excuse (even a weak one) to be lazy, take naps, and eat fast food!

My mom said that when Andy was around 2 and they would have guests over,he would crawl under the table and lick their toes! Maybe that's the direction Micah's heading in! haha

And I don't consider it a slump to take an afternoon nap. There is nothing wrong with you getting rest while your baby does too. You're a busy mom!
