Today's Dr. Appointment:
Terry and I arrived early just as Dr. Samuels had asked and I told the nurse that Dr. Sam had asked for us to do a non-stress fetal test. They hooked me up to the monitors and the nurse said she'd go get me some juice to get Micah a little hyped up. But, before she left, she noticed his already-hyper self and said we didn't need the juice. Terry and I chatted in the room for over half an hour while we watched Micah's heart rate go up and down and up again. Our Nurse practitioner and later our Dr. commented that his heartrate was perfect. In fact, Dr. Sam said we should let someone publish the little seismic chart the computer printed- that it was "An A+!" She said, we should be very proud of our active baby who had wonderful measurements even without any juice!
This was unusually cheery for Dr. Sam. Something was up with her today...
First, she came in and asked why we were monitoring Micah's heartbeat. I said, "because you told me to." She said, "I did?"
Then she thought it was Wednesday rather than Thursday, and said she didn't remember telling me she'd induce before next Friday.
She also forgot I was a regular Sugar Land patient (I was in the Houston office) and she asked why I'd come all the way to the Houston office to see her. I reminded her that she'd specifically requested for me to come to this office so she could do another cervix massage. (She did do one, but we won't talk about it.)
Even weirder than her forgetfulness was her completely upbeat and positive attitude. It was all very Jekyl and Hyde.
Well, as for Micah's arrival...
My blood pressure is back down to normal levels, my swelling is gone at least for now, and Micah's heartrate is great, so, just as I suspected (it was that darn Valentine tee that jinxed us!) She said she sees no reason to induce.
I argued with her for a good long while, and she sympathized with how miserable I am. She said if I really wanted, we could schedule an induction for anytime I was ready, but when she explained that it would mean longer labor, harder contractions, and still possibly lead to a c-section, I said "Fine, forget it."
We've got an ultrasound scheduled for next Wednesday and if it looks good, we're just waiting on Micah to decide he's ready to come home. If my fluid levels are low, we'll schedule an induction for Friday the 9th. She did say however that because of my progression (I'm dilated another centimeter) she thinks we might actually go naturally before the due date.
I said to Terry on the way home, "Well, now we've got 3 possibilities. Micah comes early on his own, my fluids are low and we induce on his due date, or he comes late on his own."
Terry said, "Well, that's usually how it works. Babies come before, on, or after their due dates." Well put, babe. And so let the waiting begin...
