I'll begin my 22nd week of pregnancy Monday. And that means we've passed the half way point. Micah is no longer a quiet participant in our family. He's made his presence known through his growing kicks. Terry's new favorite past time is watching my stomach bump when Tater's busy playing inside.
Here's the latest on Micah's growth:
Week 18
Micah is approx 21cm long and weighs about 235g/8oz.
He has become more aware of the world around him and can hear sounds outside the uterus.
I may feel him jump at unexpected noises.
He has wrinkled skin due to an absence of fat.
Week 19
Micah is approx 23cm long and weighs about 285g/10oz.
Ears now stand out from the sides of his head.
Buds for Micah's permanent teeth appear behind the ones for the milk teeth.
Week 20
Micah is approx 25.5cm long and weighs about 340g/12oz.
Vernix (waxy substance to protect his skin from the amniotic fluid) is starting to form.
Week 21
Micah is approx 28cm long and weighs about 390g/14oz.
He already has a high number of red blood cells.
White blood cells (responsible for fighting infection) are beginning to be manufactured in his little body.
And Monday will begin my 22nd week:
Micah is approx 29.5cm long and weighs about 410g (that's almost a full pound!)
He is learning about his body and surroundings through touch.
Fingernails are fully grown by now. They will probably need to be trimmed when born!
Micah will frequently touch and stroke his own face.
