Micah's Moment

(I know I'm supposed to be posting about Christmas... but that can wait.)

Thursday night I was in the car with Micah and we had this conversation...

Micah: Who is Granna's Mommy and Daddy?

Me: Mammaw is Granna's mommy. I never got to meet, Pappaw, her Daddy. He died before I met him.

Micah: Is he in Heaven?

Me: Yes, I think so. But we can't really know for sure who is in Heaven for sure. Not everyone gets to go to Heaven.

Micah: Why not?

Me: Well, because you have to love Jesus. You have to say a prayer and ask him to come in your heart. And then he says you can come to Heaven and be with him. But people only go to Heaven when they get very sick or very old. But someday Mommy will be there. And Daddy too!

Micah: I want to say the prayer.

Me: You can. You just have to tell Jesus you love him. (I'm thinking he's so young that he'll just say OK and move on.)

Micah: Yes. Will you help me pray right now?

Me: Yes...

And together we prayed that Micah could know Jesus, love him, and receive His love in return. We prayed that God would help Micah be a better person.

When we said, "Amen," Micah said, "Let's read the Bible and see what it says about Heaven!"

So when we got home later we read some verses and had fun speculating on what Heaven might be like. Micah specifically hoped that we could jump on clouds and sing songs.

When it was time to go to bed last night, he graduated from his standard prayer. It's usually: "Dear Jesus, help everyone get better. Amen." But this time he asked for help being a good person and thanked God for loving him.

When we were talking in the car, the last thing I thought was that he would end up asking me to help him with his prayer. When the conversation started I wasn't surprised, because we do talk about Heaven and God. But I was surprised that at not even four years old, He really seemed to understand what it meant.

Terry and I are thrilled and very ready to encourage the newfound relationship! Congratulations, Micah! You make Mommy and Daddy very proud!

That's so cool that he's already talking to God differently!
