Just Like His Daddy

Micah's not talking like most babies his age. By this time most babies are using repetative language like ba-ba, ga-ga, etc. Micah is stuck on vowels and he talks more like this... "oooooohh" and "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." I didn't think much of it. He doesn't get as much verbal stimulation during the day as, say, babies who are in a daycare. And babies all develop differently, anyway. But, I recently came across an article about extremely active babies who develop language skills at a slower pace.

The article mostly discussed early personality traits in toddlers. The way they described the active baby described Micah exactly. He's into everything all of the time. We were so excited to buy him a bouncer a few weeks ago and after the newness of it wore off after a week, he hasn't been able to spend more than 5 minutes in it. It's even worse now that he can crawl and pull himself up to a standing position. He doesn't want to be confined, he doesn't want to talk, he doesn't even want to play with his toys. He wants to climb on the couch, the chairs, under his highchair and over my lap. He especially loves venturing into any areas that are "baby-forbidden!"

I mentioned this article to Terry the other day and he excitedly said, "Micah's like me! Not much to say, but lots to do!" That couldn't be more true! Terry is really an intelligent person, but he never had any interest in school or anything that kept him sitting still for too long (ok- with the exception of XBox!). And even though I danced and played club and school volleyball growing up, I always liked the more intellectually stimulating activities like girl scouts and honor society.

So, it seems we've got a mini-Terry on our hands. When Micah was born he more closely resembled my baby pictures. But, as he gets older all I can see in him is Terry. (Although every once in a while his resemblance to my mother is striking. I'm sure he'll love to hear that as much as I loved hearing that I look like my dad.) And now we're discovering he's like his daddy in more than just looks. Nothing makes Terry happier than the fact that one of Micah's very favorite toys is his plastic baseball bat!

Aw that's so sweet! I can't wait to see who Hazel is like.
And cool that Micah is cheap to entertain. :)
