God had finally begin softening our hearts towards the idea of buying a home. Something neither of us has ever felt compelled to do. So a few months ago we began to crunch numbers and take the idea seriously. We figured out how much we'd like to spend, wrote down our "must-haves" "and want-to-haves" and then it was time to discuss WHERE to buy. We know most of Houston and it's suburbs pretty well, now!
Right out of college we lived on the outskirts of Sugar Land. Here:
After we had Micah, we decided that we both liked Katy and wanted to try to move out there. So we did. And we lived, here:
And then we wanted to be in a house instead of an apartment. But when we looked at house prices in Katy, they were too high. So we moved about 3 blocks outside of Katy ISD and into Cypress, which was closer to Terry's work, anyway. We liked Cypress and figured we'd stay there for good.
We've loved every minute of our down-sized life here inside the Belt of Houston. But when we started thinking about thinking about buying... we weren't sure that the Spring Branch/Memorial area was right for us. In fact, as soon as buying was a soon-to-be reality, we both knew exactly what that meant... moving back to where my home has always been: Sugar Land. There was no other answer that either of us thought was acceptable. In fact, once we started talking about all the plusses of moving "back home" we got anxious and decided that we didn't want to wait until our savings for the house was ready. We were ready to be back in Imperial Town asap!
Which meant we'd have to leave our home church, Copperfield. And we'd no longer be just 15 minutes from Aunt Kelly and Uncle Kyle. There are some definite negatives, but in the end, my heart is in Sugar Land and lucky for me, Terry feels the same way!
The last piece of the puzzle fell into place when we scored a rent home directly across the street from our new church and right in the center of all the hotspots of Sugar Land! We're within walking distance to the Imperial Sugar Factory which is the icon of my childhood (and now boasts a weekly Farmer's Market!). We're less than five minutes from the house my dad grew up in, too! Feels like home. And until we finally bite the bullet and buy a house, this will be our home:
I won't decorate the 1920's house in quite the same way as the previous owners (!) but I can't wait to get the next part of our lives started in this precious little bungalow! Can't wait to be 10 minutes away from more than a dozen family members. Can't wait till the Skeeters minor league team starts! Sugar Land sure feels sweet!

There's one side of Houston you haven't lived in. I think you need to try one more area to make an informed decision. (no but for real, really excited for your new move!!)
Though this may be a bit late, as you have already moved...WAHOO! I can officially say it feels good to be home, huh? ;)
