Caleb's Imagination

Caleb has always liked to assign us alter egos. It started at the dinner table when he'd give each of us an inanimate object to go by. I was a spoon a lot.

Then Caleb discovered the Toy Store trilogy and as he watched he would scream out, "There I am! There I am!" when he saw Buzz Lightyear. He would pick one of us to be Rex, or Woody, or Jessie, or Mr. Potato Head. And it usually extends beyond our immediate family and he often names friends, cousins, Aunts and Uncles, too. He'll say, "There's Aunt Mel!" ( I think you were Rex, last time, Mel!)

It's so darn cute! And he's taking it a step further now. When we read books he has to assign us to the cast of characters. Today we were reading a book that had only 2 characters. He said one was Micah, one was Caleb.... and me and Terry were fence posts!

Caleb must have noticed that my mouth is always open. Smart, observant boy, that Caleb.

When the girls watch TV shows, they usually claim a character. Which usually turns into a fight!
