Food

In an effort to give Micah maximum space to crawl, we've worked hard on making the living and kitchen areas "baby-proof." That meant, among other things, moving the trash in the kitchen out of his way and into a closet just off the kitchen. That makes it harder to clean up, so somtimes, I'll hang a Target or Kroger bag from the pantry doorknob to throw trash into as I work.

Yesterday Micah was doing his own thing, scooting around the house as usual, and I was working at the computer. I'd forgotten I left one of the trash bags hanging from the door until I heard a sucking sound.

Micah had pulled part of the bag down and was going to town-- sucking away-- on a day-old chimichanga that had fallen out!

A chimichanga!!! In the past week I've tried to get Micah to eat plain bread, plain shredded chicken, and white potatoes- all to no avail. He'd make his grossed out face and gagging noise. But this, THIS, he eats!

Yesterday was also the turning point for us regarding baby food. I've enjoyed making Micah's food and giving him the freshest ingredients, but my ability to offer a variety has waned. When I was looking at the baby food aisle yesterday, it just seemed so much more fun!

There are varieties of foods like "Chicken and vegetable meal" that it would take me a lot of time to duplicate. And there are foods like butternut squash and eggplant- which are both costly and extremely time-consuming to make (so many seeds mean that you get very little meat from each of these.) Then there are foods that are just plain 'ol expensive when bought fresh. Raspberries and cherries for example. Of course, when I say that the jarred baby food is cheaper, I'm not referring to Gerber. There's a brand called Beechnut that sell their products for significantly less than Gerber. Micah has loved each variety so far, and even though their greenbeans have just the beans and water (same as when I made them) he couldn't get enough of them yesterday. Yep, greenbeans and chimichangas. Oh- and let's not forget his new love of socks! Quite the delicate palate!

Ewww!! But funny nonetheless. Looks like he likes Mexican food now just as much as he did when you were pregnant!
