Beginning Solids

The first thing Micah ate besides milk was rice cereal. Then he had oatmeal. Then rice cereal with bananas. Those were easy for both of us. It has a bland flavor for him and it's easy to digest. It's easy for Terry and me because you just mix flakes with water.
We made the decision to at least try to make his veggies and fruits at home instead of the more pricey jars. I spent about $6 and one hour making enough food to last Micah about 12 days. So far it's working well. I have a blender made special for pureeing baby foods and icecube trays with lids that allow you to freeze 1-oz servings at a time. Once the food is pureed, I freeze it in the trays, then dump the frozen cubes into freezer bags to store in the back of the freezer till we're ready for them.
It's been fun!

Micah started with carrots. He loved them! Couldn't get enough. We waited several days before starting another veggie (to allow time to make sure he's not allergic) and then we tried squash. He's not a fan of squash. He makes a gagging face and turns his head away unless I mix it with carrots or oatmeal. We'll see if his taste for it changes soon.

I'm glad to know that making his food is easy. I am so gonna try that now! Hopefully you haven't found any food allergies yet?
