My doctor approved me for exercise last week, so Monday I decided that Micah and I would go for a walk.
I tied a sweater around my waste to cover my still-too-big-for-my-pants booty and off we went. Just me and him and the giant stroller.
Once I was on the sidewalk in front of my apartment, I realized that a section of it ahead was taped off and it looked like fresh cement. I didn't want to cross the busy street to avoid it and I had plenty of room on either side of the sidewalk to pass. So, we charged ahead.
When I got to the roped off part, I maneuvered the stroller to the right and immediately had to slow my pace to pick the stroller up and carry it over large tree roots. Before I knew it I was sinking in deep mud. It hadn't rained and the dirt hadn't looked muddy at all. But my tennis shoes were sinking up to my shoe laces. Not to mention, that with every lurch forward the wheels of the stroller sunk lower and accumulated their own thick mass of mud. I was embarrassed that passing cars could obviously see my struggle.
I finally got free and happily kept walking thinking of all the calories I was burning. As I walked I tried to scrape the mud from my shoes. Then I stopped to tighten the sweater around my waste- and it wasn't there. I turned and it took me a while to see my blue sweater---right in the middle of the mud. I must have lost it during my struggle. I didn't turn back to get it. I decided that it was as good as gone.
So, I turned down a side street into a neighborhood and went a few blocks when it STARTED RAINING! There were a few clouds in the sky but it was mostly bright and sunny. So, I pull the stroller cover over Micah and begin charging forward to get him back before we got soaked. I'd already been walking for at least 10 minutes, so it was a LONG run back. Luckily for me it stopped and just sprinkled the rest of the way.
I'd already planned to hop in the car once I was home and run a few errands as long as I had Micah out. So, we jumped in the car. After we went to the bank I decided my rough first-attemt at exercise deserved a treat. So, I swung through McDonalds and got some fries.
Which, you know, really are the key to any good exercise regimen.
